Outerwear as a Personality Part 1
AKA How to get through the colder months

Everything has a season and I don’t know if it’s the cold weather or a wave of nostalgia, but lately I’ve been deep in my fur-jacket era. Think 1960s mini jackets with fur cuffs, (very Jackie O), the 1970s leather trenches à la Penny Lane… and those effortlessly bohemian, slightly undone looks inspired by Bianca Jagger and Anita Pallenberg or the long fur coats that epitomized 80s decadence (note to my lovely readers, I will get into the 70’s & 80s in my second outerwear newsletter to follow).
I am a true lover of vintage coats, they give that extra kick of personality and individuality I so crave. That said, if vintage isn’t your thing, or hunting is just not your thing, there are so many current brands doing beautiful faux-fur and vintage-inspired styles right now. Same feeling, same drama, just a lot easier to access. I’m often pleasantly surprised when I eye a piece out in the wild that looks vintage and ask the person wearing it where they found it, and the reply is “oh I got it on Net, or it’s Rixo…”
I’ve put together a little round up below, but I also have a lot more styles that I will link to on my ShopMy fur collections page feel free to check it out when need a break from Epstein files, doomscrolling, or can’t sleep at night ( sidenote- I like to shop when everyone else is sleeping).
1960s Mini Jackets (Jackie O Energy)
Inspo: Structured, cropped jackets with fur cuffs or collars- polished but statement making.
Why & when: This is the easiest way to add drama without committing to a full coat. I wear these during the day with jeans and flats, or at night over a mini or tailored pants when I want something to speak up and make the outfit feel special, but not feel fussy.

Leopard, the 60s Way
Inspo: Leopard as a graphic, not a statement. People look confused when I tell them leopard is a neutral, but to me, it is very much a neutral. It may be loud, but it works with anything, when you want to give main character energy.
Why & when: Leopard works best when it’s doing the one thing. Think dinner parties, or travel days when everything else is simple and the jacket does the talking.

Penny Lane & the 70s Leather Trench
Inspo: Long leather trenches with oversized fur collars—cool and confident.
Why & when: This is a hero coat. I reach for it on cold nights, trips, or anytime I want to feel pulled together without trying too hard. It instantly elevates even the simplest outfit, be it jeans or a dress.

A Note on Faux Fur
The quality has gotten incredibly good. You can also still get that vintage-esque feel—chic, cozy, and a little dramatic—but it’s accessible, wearable, and available now.
Stay tuned for part 2, where we explore 70’s and 80s glam fur coats.
